A corpse lies rotting in the hot sun next to a lake that was formed overnight when rains inundated his village of Mapou in Haiti. Because of deforestation much of Haiti is severely eroded. during heavy rains the erosion can be devastating. With fewer trees there are fewer roots to hold excess rain water, consequently it slid down the mountains destroying everything in its path. Mapou Haiti, 2004
